Democrats Criticize Trump Administration’s AI Data Center Push for Driving Up Electricity Costs
Democratic senators, including Richard Blumenthal and Bernie Sanders, are demanding accountability from the White House and Commerce Department over the TRUMP Administration's aggressive push for AI data centers. They argue that these facilities, backed by secretive deals with tech giants like Meta, Google, and OpenAI, are significantly increasing electricity costs for consumers.
One Meta data center alone is projected to consume 5 gigawatts of power—equivalent to the usage of nearly 4 million homes. Energy demand from data centers is expected to more than double from 5% to 12% of national grid capacity within three years, straining infrastructure. Democrats question why taxpayers are effectively subsidizing Big Tech's energy bills while the WHITE House fails to address the issue.
